Every woman is a mother in some way, and I am so grateful for my mom, as well as the many women who have been mentors and examples in my life. I love that there’s a day we can honor mothers and motherly figures. Wishing you and especially all the mamas out there a happy Mother’s Day!!! 🌺💕🌺💕🌺

🌺 "What matters most lasts longest."

When I was a little girl my mom worked with the youth. She would make handouts for the young women at our church and then make a couple extras for my sisters and I. One of the handouts had this quote 👆🏽 and it's always stuck with me.

In life we're presented with things that may seem very important and crucial. And there ARE a lot of important things we need to think about and work for: career, a good lifestyle, and so much more. But, like I mentioned in my book, "Aloha State of Mind," a lot of things are just that: things. The most important things in life aren't even things.

They're people, relationships, time spent with others, service, and so much more. These are the "things" that last longest, that impact us the most, that make us better people, help us to become more like Christ.

Here are some Hawaiian value reminders:

Ho’omau. This means to keep going, to endure, persevere. 🌺

In celebrating Holy Week, I think it’s poignant that there’s a day between Good Friday, the suffering and death of Jesus Christ, and Easter, His glorious resurrection. I can’t imagine how anxious and sad the apostles and followers of Christ must have felt as they grieved His loss.

These last three days of Holy Week are a good metaphor for our lives. We’ll all have Fridays—the days where life is overwhelming, where the grief, pain, stress, and heartache are too much to bear. And sometimes it feels like these challenges, stresses, sadness, and/or anxiety can lag on. Often it does.

But Sunday always comes. And because of Jesus Christ, we can ho’omau—endure, carry on, press forward—with hope and faith. Things get better. The light shines. Hope is always possible. Because of Him.

The grave has no victory. Disappointment and unfairness are made right. We can have strength beyond our own (Philippians 4:13). We’ll live again, free from physical, emotional, and mental ailments. We’ll get to reunite with loved ones who have moved on from this life.

So hold onto that hope. Ho’omau. When life gets hard, when it feels like the metaphorical Friday and Saturday are life shattering and lagging, keep going. Persevere. Endure. Because of Him, hope is always possible. 💕

I’ve been in a bit of an overwhelmed mode lately, so this Holy Week and Easter season have been really encouraging for me. I hope it is for you too. E ho’omau e ko’u mau hoa aloha. 🌺 Aloha! 💙 -Lei

It’s Holy Week and I hope it’s an inspiring, faith-building one for you. ✨

I wanted to post yesterday on Palm Sunday but things got a little too busy. So today, Monday, marks the day that Jesus cleansed the temple. When I think of what he did on this day, I ask myself, what do I need to cleanse from myself to let Christ in? He is the way to everlasting peace. He IS the prince of peace, after all.

Ho’omaluhia means to “be peaceful” and to “have peace.” Today’s world is losing the virtues of civility and decency. It doesn’t hurt anyone to be polite and kind. Jesus himself said “blessed are the peacemakers.”

This week, and leading up to Easter, I hope we can all try a little harder to have peace within ourselves through Christ, and then to be peacemakers with others. ✨

A quick story to go with this... the last couple weeks I’ve been trying to overcome one of my weaknesses that has to do with confrontations. I hate confrontations. I’ve learned over the years to suck things up and just deal with it cause the confrontations aren’t worth it. However, I’ve had a few instances where I’ve had to stand up for myself. Did they make me super anxious? Yes. But whenever I felt the tugs to get angry, jealous, or contentious I told myself it wasn’t worth it. If I am going to be a true disciple of Christ I must try to do what he would do. In the confrontations I dealt with, I was kind, patient, and tried to understand before being understood. I’m not perfect, but now that I look back at the experiences, I’m so glad I didn’t let anger and hatred win. I still have a lot to work on, but I truly love this value—ho’omaluhia. Have peace, be peaceful. Be a peacemaker like Christ.

So MAHALO for your patience with me as I figured this all out haha. And thanks for sticking with me. I’ve just had a lot of amazing DMs and conversations in the past on this account with people who have loved “Aloha State of Mind” and the Hawaiian culture and values. They’re not exactly the same audience as people who read my fairy tale retellings. So I want to keep this one for my blog and self help books, as well as other Hawaii books coming out in the future. 🌊
